Kachemak View: “Skyline Series” In early 2020, when the Skyline Series was in its infancy, I was often lost in thoughts of friends and travel. On an average year, by the time April rolls around, my mom has started to talk about what weeks she will be heading east to see her family. When May turns the corner, my sisters and I have a conversation about what week in July we will head to Kenai for fish camp, and by June, Justin and I have an idea of the trips we would like to take that summer. During each of those separate conversations I am triggered by memories of times past. Places, seen and traveled, mark events in our lives. A childhood, an adventure, a discovery, etc… I wanted to share those places with you in this series by highlighting areas around Alaska. Kachemak View is an artistically depicted skyline of the view seen from Homer, Alaska. A layered skyline of mountains framed by two pieces of sea kelp and a flowing bay. For me, Homer is a special place. As a teen, I would drive down to Homer from Anchorage every summer to spend time with my friend, Ellie. Years later and with our husbands close friends too, we still regularly take the drive to visit and carve out some adventure: Biking across the bay, adventures in Halibut cove, Jakalof Island, fresh food at the Saltry, treks to Red Mountain, kayaking, fishing in China Poot, renting yurts, and staying in island cabins.
