Your genuine leather, veg tanned belt is constructed with one contiguous piece of supple leather. Hand cut, finished and conditioned by the artist. One end of the belt has two slits in it allowing the other end to feed through the other, securing the belt and creating a figure "8" knot. The back is approximately 2' wide and the front approximately 3 1/8" wide.
Turn Around Time:
Your belt was made with you specifically in mind. Allow 10 business days from manufacturing to Shipping.
How to Measure:
This particular belt design is made to fit above the hips. Keeping that in mind, while you measure yourself, you’re going to want to take your measurement while wearing the clothes you’ll be wearing the belt with.
Would you like to wear it with a cotton summer dress or a duster sweater? Maybe both?
While taking your measurement at home, you’ll want have the thinnest fabric that the belt will be going over (try not to lift your arms or hold your breath in while taking this measurement). You want the measuring tape to be able to move a little bit, not be tight against your body.
Order your belt using the smallest measurement size (in inches) you take. You’re going to have about 3” of wiggle room to fit the belt over other heavier fabrics.
How to Tie your Knot:
Don’t stress. Each belt comes with step by step photo instructions on how to tie your knot. As always, reach out to me if you have difficulty.
Your belt will arrive boxed, in a linen keepsake bag with both care instructions + knot tying instructions. All leather orders are conditioned before they go out. I highly recommend periodically using a leather conditioner to keep it looking it’s best.
The “Betsy Belt” : A back story + family roots
The Leather Works side of Temper + Forge was first inspired by a beautiful belt that my Mom gave me roughly 15 years ago. She had purchased an artisan wrap belt while visiting Provincetown, MA in the 60's. If you’re not familiar with the area yet, this small town has an eclectic community of artists and smiths of all sorts. Shops are often run by artists and families who passed their trades down. At the time she bought this original wrap, leatherwork had become very popular in the area.
Lets get some tools and put our hand to leather work. I was a total novice.
That belt got compliments and questions on where to get one. I could see other people also enjoying a belt that was both functional and was like wearing a piece of art. Leather is such an amazing natural material and like other pieces of art that comes out of the studio I loved the thought of creating something that would be passed down for generations. So, the wrap belts were born - the belt "Betsy" after my awesome Mom which looks similar to the original design and the “Courtney” which is a slip through tie knot. Unlike the original belt which was made of hand dyed leather, these belts are made from veg tanned leather and are available in two colors Chestnut or Dark Brown.

* leather, unlike man-made materials, have natural variances. These variances in color and texture make each belt unique.
